Highlights
- StitchDX replaced a much-used but outdated intranet with a modern intranet built on SharePoint at a fraction of the cost of a custom build.
- Applying our unique StitchDX Discovery process, we uncovered opportunities to improve OBSI employees’ communication and collaboration.
- SitchDX delivered a modern digital workplace that improved on OBSI’s existing intranet and provided a foundation for future growth and rapid response to changing circumstances.

Background
Ombudsman for Banking Services and Investments (OBSI) is Canada’s trusted independent dispute-resolution service for consumers and small businesses who have complaints they can’t resolve directly with their banking services or investment firms. Their previous intranet could not affordably be supported by the original development team.
OBSI sought to keep the structured, governed approach of their former intranet while identifying opportunities for more modern interface, workflows, and/or functionalities to serve them better. In short, OBSI desired a better platform to give OBSI employees a consistent user experience and access to the information they need to execute the organization’s mission.

Solution
StitchDX worked closely with the OBSI team to design and implement a solution that retained the best of their existing intranet while improving user experience and functionality. Discovery conversations helped to determine the overall site structure, home page layout, departmental pages, and Active Directory requirements. The new intranet provides:
- The speed, security, and uptime of a SaaS solution built on top of the Microsoft ecosystem.
- Tools to keep employees engaged and promote a sense of unity, including a section for celebrating new hires, birthdays, and work anniversaries. Users can also give each other “kudos” for jobs well done.
- A deeper and richer search experience that returns not just a list of documents and folders but people, groups, and other important information in a well-organized display.
- A custom search experience for finding and interacting with their case records, including a customized search to quickly find case materials.
- Departmental FAQs with a customized search to quickly find answers.
- A visual and intuitive company directory experience to quickly find fellow employees by name, department, job title, expertise, or location. The directory uses OBSI’s existing SharePoint user profiles (synced with their Azure Active Directory).
- A deeper and richer search experience that returns not just a list of documents and folders but people, groups, and other important information in a well-organized display.

After initial deployment, StitchDX ran and recorded video training sessions focused on administrative tasks for the core team and on content contribution for a wider group of department content administrators. StitchDX continues to support OBSI as they consider further features and additional functionality.
The StitchDX team have been committed partners throughout this process, bringing professionalism and expertise and delivering a solution that fit our needs. They have been very responsive, providing support and guidance before and after launch. The transition was smooth because the new intranet feels familiar while offering great new engagement features and useful functionality like FlexDesk.
As OBSI began to use the new intranet, StitchDX began working implementing Roadmap items, quickly delivering the FlexDesk reservation system and creating a customized view for work anniversaries to celebrate years-worked milestones. These features help drive a sense of community and utilized the Powell and SharePoint technology OBSI had already invested in.
